Festival Film Commissions Call Out

Dance Hub CIC member DanceXchange (DX) is excited to offer a series of commissions as part of the renowned Birmingham International Dance Festival’s first all-digital programme BIDF TV, taking place in June 2021.

BIDF TV will feature a rich and varied programme of dance on screen, new commissions, workshops, masterclasses and panel discussions.

DX are inviting proposals for the following three Midlands Made commissioning strands:

Two commissions for new films of up to 15mins in length. Artists will be paired with an experienced Screendance Production Company to turn their vision into reality. All post-production/editing and equipment will be provided by DX. This opportunity is open to dance artists based anywhere in the UK, however at least 50% of the projects will be made by and with Midlands-based artists & contributors.

Five commissions for new Screendance Shorts of up to 1min, to be filmed on your camera-phone or tablet – perfect for social media! Artists will receive mentoring from an experienced Screendance Production Company & the DX Artist Support Team. Open to Midlands-based, early-career artists, including recent graduates or similar.

Ten £150 honorariums are available for existing Screendance films, up to 15mins in length. This opportunity is open to dance artists based anywhere in the UK, however at least 50% of the projects will be made by and with Midlands-based artists & contributors.

DX actively encourage applications from artists of diverse backgrounds with different skills, perspectives and stories. We are particularly keen to receive proposals that reflect a broad range of experiences across age, class, disability, gender, race and sexual orientation.
